Military sentinel - Pacifica pattern.
From the Encyclopaedia Republica: [...] The Pacifica pattern sentinel was based on the last mass produced non upgradeable AI core. Due to a design flaw in the sensory input grid of the Pacifica AI, the active AI became fused with robotic body that contained it. Removal of the control core always destabilized the unit, requiring a full system wipe in order to reuse the core. [...]During the phase-in period of the new upgradeable AI cores a curious statistical anomaly was observed: The Pacifica pattern AI combat success rate jumped up by at least 10 percent across the board. Never adequately explained, the populist theory was that the Pacifica became aware of the finality of it's line and refused to be terminated. This theory has been rejected at the time by the robotics industry as it would suggest sentience. [...]The last know Pacifica pattern AI core was destroyed in the initial days of the Three Suns War. Another speed-paint, about 1 hour. Started off as a sketch from Alchemy (inset above), then enhanced in GIMP. This time I spent a lot more time modifying this work in GIMP, so almost none of the original Alchemy sketch is visible. |
